Darjeeling Oolong

Gopaldhara Darjeeling Oolong – Second Flush 2023 – Premium Series

Traditional Darjeeling Oolong Tea is semi-oxidized and the oxidation level is between black and green. The manufacturing style of Oolong is very different from the traditional black teas and involves controlling the oxidation to the desired level required until the flavor has been maximized. To make good Oolong the quality of the shoots should be very good. This is reflected in the leaf style. Darjeeling Oolong Tea is generally very stylish to look at. These teas are manufactured from the high mountains of Gopaldhara where the bushes have been planted at 5500 to 7000 FT. It is rich in antioxidants and has several health benefits. The teas are very smooth to drink with hardly any astringency.

Classic First Flush is an authentic and traditional Darjeeling first flush tea from the high elevation of Gopaldhara Tea Estate, which stretches up to 7000 ft. It has a traditional Darjeeling fresh flavour with a prominent flowery character. The tea is very light on the palate with a sweet and smooth clean leather flavour. The low temperature experienced during winter has given a very well defined smooth character to the tea. It has a very strong and prominent aftertaste that stays with you for quite some. It is a traditional Darjeeling first flush tea, something which everyone used to enjoy before the clones came up. These bushes are now more than 135 years old and were originally planted by the British. During the first flush which is also known as spring flush, we have 100% growing shoots and get excellent buds with either single leaf or two leaves and a bud. The flavor is prominent as the weather is also very dry and cool which ensures very slow growth. The plucking is of such fine quality that the tea only needs to be hand sorted and the machines used to make the tea are very less. The garden workers are very careful in their plucking by hand to make sure only the best shoots with prominent buds are plucked. Authentic Darjeeling First Flush Teas are known to be slightly oxidized. This tea is also made in the same way but it is sufficiently oxidized to ensure that all the exquisite flavors are prominently present.

Rohini (RTE-14) Darjeeling Bai MuDan White Peony – First Flush White Tea 2023- Master Series

This rare and delicate Darjeeling Bai MuDan White Peony is an exotic White Tea from Rohini Tea Estate. This tea is made during the first flush season when the buds and leaves are the youngest. These young buds and leaves are needed to produce this beautiful white tea. They are treated with great care after harvest to preserve the fine white hair present on the leaves. One of the biggest challenges in harvesting and processing this tea is time, energy, and skill. This reduces the production of small batches which leads to the process becoming expensive. And this is why it can be difficult to scale up production to meet market demand. Instead of rolling and oxidizing, this first flush white tea is sun-dried in a controlled method that preserves its unforgettable smooth, creamy, and fruity texture. The picturesque dry leaves are greenish-grey with lots of silvery tips that brew into a pale yellow-green colored liquor. A hint of honey and notes of wildflowers can also be felt in this Bai MuDan White Peony. When it comes to health benefits this Darjeeling white tea has maximum antioxidant content and the lowest amount of caffeine content in it, which makes it healthier. It is also packed with polyphenols that act as antioxidants and protect our bodies from oxidative damage.

Gopaldhara Spring Sencha Green Tea 2022 – Classic Series

This Japanese style green tea is produced during the spring season from high-quality green tea clones. Plucked from the highest elevated peaks of the Gopaldhara Tea Estate, the finely plucked leaves have less tannin which makes the tea less bitter. The leaves are plucked young and tender to produce a smooth cup. Oxidation is skipped to ensure all the essential antioxidants and polyphenols are preserved. The leaves are gently rolled which allows them to open up in the pot when brewed. After plucking, the whole tea leaves are steamed, gently hand-rolled, polished and flattened instead of being cut to a standard Darjeeling FTGFOP1 sorting. Flattening is a long process that can take up to four hours and gives the tea leaves their unique needle-like shape. This process makes for a very smooth cup of green tea as they are sorted less and a large portion of the leaf is completely retained. The tea has a very delicate light green-coloured liquor with a very nice vegetal and leafy flavour and sweet honey notes. The finish is very crisp and refreshing without any astringency.

Green tea contains nutrients and compounds that have great health benefits. It is rich in antioxidants and is a healthy beverage that can be consumed every day.

Rohini (RTE-21) Rare Spring Green – Master Series

This special and rare Darjeeling Green Tea is from the Rohini Tea Estate, one of the youngest tea gardens in Darjeeling. It is made during the spring season from special Japanese bushes that have less tannin content in them. The bushes are covered with thick natural shades which help the leaves retain chlorophyll and give them a unique taste. After careful plucking, the whole tea leaves are allowed to rest so that they develop some flavors. This is followed by steaming, drying and lightly rolling the tea. The whole tea leaves appear dark green in colour and contain several buds. The tea brews into a bright green cup which is rich and smooth on the palate with no astringency. It has vegetal and umami flavors with a hint of pine and a lingering aftertaste. For many years there were four basic taste groups i.e. sweet, sour, bitter, and salty. ‘Umami’, or the fifth taste, has been a recent discovery. Umami is a Japanese word that means “pleasant savoury taste”. It is a very common flavor and we’ve all tasted it without really noticing it. Some of our foods that have this umami taste are tomatoes, mushrooms, seaweed, soy sauce and parmesan cheese.

Rohini Summer Honey Oolong 2023 – Royal Series

This is one of the finest summer teas produced from high-quality AV2 bushes at Rohini Tea Estate. There is a reason behind the name ‘bug bitten tea’. During June, when the second flush teas are harvested, the rise in temperature also causes a rise in the insect population. The Tea Jassids, also called green flies in Darjeeling feed on the tea leaves for a couple of weeks. During this time they suck out the moisture causing the leaves to shrivel downwards. The loss of moisture does not kill the leaf but rather stunts it’s growth leading to a concentration of flavors. They also leave pinpricks on the leaf surface which induces natural fermentation. During the process of fermentation odorous compounds are released which in turn make the tea more flavorful and aromatic. It is a quirk of nature that the ‘Muscatel’ flavor present in second flush Darjeeling teas is a result of stress response to insect infestation This summer oolong consists of brownish-black leaves and a few silver tips. It brews into an aromatic bright amber cup with a very smooth flavor and no astringency. The tea has a mouthful of sweet and fruity muscatel character with a finish of honey and mango flavors. A compelling make and a true delight, it is definitely one of the best teas produced by Rohini Tea Estate.

Ashwagandha is included in the blend to promote better sleep and improve its overall quality. When brewed, this healthy Herbal Tea transforms into a vibrant golden infusion. It emits a rich, earthy, and slightly musky aroma, with subtle hints of citrus and a touch of black pepper zing. The flavour profile offers a tranquil and soothing experience with a gentle earthy undertone. It is beautifully complemented by the subtle notes of black pepper and ginger that grace the edges of the palate. The delightful citrusy sweetness of lemongrass rounds off this remarkable tea, creating a harmonious and comforting cup. As per the National Library of Medicine – National Institutes of Health, USA Turmeric, rich in curcumin, has medicinal properties with benefits for oxidative and inflammatory conditions, metabolic syndrome, arthritis, anxiety, and more. Gopaldhara Darjeeling Earl Grey – Regular Series

The Earl Grey blend is named after the 2nd Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in 1830. Darjeeling Earl Grey Tea is a tea blend with a distinctive flavor and aroma derived from the addition of oil extracted from the rind of the bergamot orange. Citrus bergamia, the bergamot orange, is a fragrant citrus fruit the size of an orange, with a yellow or green color similar to a lime, depending on ripeness. Traditionally, the term ‘Earl Grey’ has applied only to black teas that contain oil of bergamot as a flavoring. This Earl Grey from Darjeeling gives you the sweet Muscatel character along with the prominent fruit character and is balanced to give you a flavor of both the worlds.
